DALLAS (The Dallas Morning News) – A Dallas County jury on Wednesday sentenced a man to 28 years in prison after a two-week trial in what prosecutors said was one of the worst cases of domestic violence that they’ve seen in which a victim survived.
Before Jose Arreola was taken away to begin his sentence, he heard one last time from the 43-year-old woman who he beat, stabbed and mutilated in March 2011. Maria Escamilla told him that she would not bore him with talk of forgiveness, nor would she pray that he be forgiven.
“I know you enjoyed every minute of pain you inflicted on me that night,” Escamilla said. “I also know that you’re only regret is that I didn’t die.”
